It was 2010 and Dr. Joe Huffmyer had been retired from podiatry for 8 years. After all he deserved it! He and his partner founded the surgical residency progrom in OKC in 1975; he built one of the largest podiatry practices in the state over the next 25 years; then started a company that built 28 outpatient physician-owned surgery centers in 11 years. He sold Surgery Centers of America in 2002 and entered retirement . . . or so he thought!
Dr. Huffmyer found retirement not all it's cracked up to be, so in 2010 he got his license back and began seeing patients one day a week, mostly for free. During this time he realized there were plenty of nursing home residents in desperate need of foot care, which the nurses and primary care doctors were not able to adequately provide. So, Dr. Huffmyer began to provide care for the elderly in these homes. Soon after, with the help of his son, and the former CFO of his surgery center company, they launched a physicians network with a vision to provide podiatry care to senior care facilities in need of the services. Today, Healthmark Physician Services has a team of physicians that provide podiatry care to more than 160 facilities in the state of Oklahoma.
